Adventure Revival?
There’s an Adventure game revival going on. The Broken Sword “Director’s Cut” remake on the DS has done exceptionally well and now Monkey Island has a remake (PC, Xbox Live) and episodes (PC, WiiWare). LucasArts is kicking up some of their other titles: Loom, Dig and Indiana Jones (Last Crusade, Fate of Atlantis) were just released on Steam and rumoured to be getting ports elsewhere.
I’d probably credit TT Games with bringing adventure games back with their Lego adventures (Star Wars, Batman, etc.).
Is it a true revival tho, or just some great nostalgia for us old-schoolers? I’m wondering when we’re going to see the success of original stories as good as the LucasArts, Delphine, Revolution and Sierra adventure games of the past. I’d love to see the likes of Loom or Future Wars get the updated remix treatment, but I also remember how amazing it was to dive into fresh (and well crafted) stories, worlds & characters.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to put a hamster in a microwave.
