Wired Eye

May 20th, 2011

This is the sort of thing that my Cult-of-Me blog category was made for. Apparently someone at Wired thinks I have nice eyes. Or at least a nice eye. This 2005 self-portrait of my own eyeball somehow made it onto Wired.com’s front page. (Screenshot of the page @ May 20/2011 is here).

I must say, it was a bit odd to visit Wired and see my own eye staring back at me.

As much as I’m amused, it was also strange because no one at Wired asked for permission to use the photo in a manner different from its assigned license. The license for it on Flickr is clearly marked for “Attribution, Noncommercial” usage. I’ll assume someone probably just read the license wrong, so I hold no grudge. Entertained as I am I’ll grant right now the permission for their usage of my photo.

It’s not that I care much to be honest. The good ‘ol web isn’t exactly well-known for adherence to these sort of artificial copy-permission rules. I don’t know why I’d ever expect the folks within the commercial news media to pay more attention to the finer details.
