Motor City Offline
I was in Office Depot checking out some wireless gear yesterday and I couldn't help but peruse the PC games. Lo and behold, I see 3 copies of Motor City Online on the shelf.
I tried to be helpful and explain to the salesman that EA is shutting down the Motor City Online servers on August 29th. He didn't quite understand when I explained that the game was useless without online servers to match. His assumption was that of course if people buy a game they'll be able to play it.
You can't even get online as a new customer for the remaining two weeks, they stopped registration for the game on July 16th. So even if they drop the price at Office Depot, if anyone buys it they're going to end up with angry customers.
So here we have the first example that the fear of MMORPG/online-only game players holds true: if the game isn't a resounding success, they drop the servers. Don'tcha just love EA? (I should be one to talk, Gameslate isn't exactly supreme at the moment).
I have one major curiosity, will someone make a third-party fan-made server for Motor City like people have done for Ultima Online?

MCO Is one of the greatest raceing games out there if anyone has the capabilitys of putting up a server they should.
Oct 5, 2004 3:39pm
I am curently trying to make a data base for it
Oct 5, 2004 5:57pm

Feb 11, 2005 1:49pm
I Love MOTOR CITY ONLINE! And i hate that those damn guys at ea canceled it for those damn rice grinder games nfsu nfsu2 and nfsu rivals
Feb 18, 2005 7:37am
Well, I havent ever seen the game in action becouse when it was available I had no Internet connection. Just like everyone else I know. :( Damn EA keep cloning that stupid "don't-use-the-brakes" racing games. And no one good example...
Sorry for any mistakes.
Nov 28, 2004 11:31pm
So.... where's the server? lol
Jan 30, 2005 9:05am
Still no news? I don't want to give up hope.
Dec 19, 2004 4:20am
Guys, we gotta do something! Let's get the server up-and-tunning. I've got approx. 45 fans that I know. Imagine - thats in one small town in Russia! my mail: charak@quake.ru If i can help...
Dec 22, 2004 12:01pm
can't you just play it offline, i know there's a HUGE difference, but wouldn't that be possible?..(doesn't have the game, but buying it soon!!)
Dec 30, 2004 10:03am
I'll be damned if that's possible...
Feb 6, 2005 2:41pm
hey, i hope you get motorcityonline working on or off line. I only with i could help but im not to good with computers. GoodLuck!
Feb 27, 2005 1:14pm
Even if we could just get it to play offline somehow, it would be fun to mess around with the cars alone. At least the game would not be worthless.
Apr 25, 2005 7:47am
mco was definatly the best game ive ever played and ive played alot....it really pisses me of they would drop such a good game, i cant even explain how good the game was you could lvl, earn money, race, talk, wut more would u want in a game?
May 21, 2005 6:41pm
Hi guys, i really really hae EA for shutting down the servers, but isn't there any possibility of racing offline? Is therer any offline crack or does somebody know any solutions? Plaese answer, thx from Hans
May 29, 2005 10:22pm
Hans, there's only one way to play this Great Game: to get the server-side software up and running. In my recent e-mail to EA I begged them to let the fans download the server soft since EA doesn't use it anymore. The answered NO! Why? I don't know...
Jun 1, 2005 9:54pm
I NEED to reply to this stuff...
I played this game for a good three hours a day when it was going and it was never enough. (Not bad for workin' dude.) I actually CHATTED with people because there was something to talk about....the friggin' cars! I can't believe it was cancelled for lack of interest when it had an audience that spanned from the hardcore gamer, to Joe Mechanic (or Joe Mama!) that just got a computer and saw the cool picture on the cover...
This is a small broken feather in EA's cap. I mean, they are the biggest bastards of them all, pretty much. I played Bard's Tale on the C64 for Christ's sake...how is THAT for customer loyalty? And what do I get? Another Madden? Thanks for NOTHING. JERKS.
Why must they be such bastards about giving up the server side software? They MUST be planning to use it for SOMETHING. I mean...they won't even SELL it? Has anyone tried THAT?!?
Maybe they sold the whole thing to Metallica for THEIR stupid car racing game...
That's it! I'm writing them right now.
Thanks for the motivation ya'll!
B. Skank

Man! I can't find where to send it! Dammit!
TO: THat guy that wrote EA and got an answer earlier in this thread...
Forward THIS to EA:
(An OPEN LETTER to EA:)
Dearest Electronic Artists,
I've know you since before my voice changed, I played Bard's Tale I, II, and III on the Commodore64. I played The Sims and most of the expansions...I bought The Sims 2...way to go 3-D! And I played the Ultimas, ALL of them....apparently you guys own THAT now, too. About 3 Maddens, a couple Basketball games, let me look around here....wait, DUH! Battlefield...Man, YOU guys have hundreds if not THOUSANDS of MY dollars. One guy playing your games. And what I want...as a long time customer....is to have Motor City Online again. It was so friggin' charming I wanted to take it to dinner. I even liked the MUSIC. That almost NEVER happens in a game...present company INCLUDED. I know there MUST be a few thousand people who would give say, a paltry $5 or $6 dollars a month to play....Hey! Maybe WE could pay for your servers! What do you need? How about using a few thousand of those dollars I gave you over the past 20 years?
How hard is it to maintain those servers? Nevermind that...What's with not wanting to give up the server software? Get someone in the comapny to LEAK it, that way you are NOT RESPONSIBLE. WE won't say anything. WE will do the work...you never have to hear from us again. Except for when we keep buying all your OTHER games that you've put out in the last 4 years. I KNOW it might not be "lucrative" right now to have this, but since 2001, look at what YOU and the INDUSTRY have done. The concept for that game is TIMELESS. I don't understand WHY one DOES NOT exist. Think about it...Fantasy, covered. War, covered in MANY ways...Urban Life Simulators? Well, we won't talk about SIMS ONLINE, which by the way, you STUCK me with when you TOOK AWAY MOTOR CITY ONLINE. Anyway, every genre of MMORPG is out there right now, it seems. But no real car ones. You guys going to have NFS Online? Just MENTION it and I will shut the hell up.
As a customer, I BESEACH you...PLEASE do something about this CHASM you have left in the online gaming industry. And if you don't have the heart to fulfill this need, then give up the broken pieces to someone who does. And we will FIX it.
(Whew! Sorry! Hope the SIZE doesn't offend. :)
Jun 15, 2005 10:18am
Bango, way to go, man! But you should have sent it directly to those... fine people in EA. I did (in the thread above).
I'm so sorry, that I didn't see the game in action. But I've got tons of screenshots. And guess what, I've found one copy of the game in our city! Thats truly great. That dude ordered it via some kinda european internet-shop long-long ago. He even played it! Needles to say that he liked it...
P.S. I hope I made not too much spelling mistakes. :)

Jun 24, 2005 9:05pm
Keep up the fight guys! this is America damnit and I want my muscle car back..I had to sell my real one so mco is all i had left...we should get like 200 ppl together and march on ea hq
lol just jokin but cmon...and also, guys try getting in contact with the runuo team and see if they have any suggestions. i dont know how they got their servers up but they sure do a damn fine job for us on there!
Jun 25, 2005 2:19am
We have to make them hear us! People, YOU live there, YOU know the language perfect. So write to their support team or something. And include the link to this page. That's not to hard. Ask EA to let us download server part of MCO. I did it to support@ea.com but recieved a reply from the robot. So this adress is now useless. DO SOMETHING!
Jun 26, 2005 9:02pm
MCO changed my life forever, who thought a game could do that? I mean before that I dint even know what a corvette was or have any interest in cars at all...and I had played those stupid nfs games before it.
if anyone comes up with that server or an offline thing please email me! I beg you.
Jun 29, 2005 7:12pm
As time goes on and the dust settles, i truly fear that we'll never see this game again. EA won't sell it, EA won't have anything to do with it. If any of the people who've offered to spend their many dollars on bringing the game back would put it toward paying a good coder to hack it, we'd have a chance.
You were close 1964Mercury, i really hope you haven't given up for good.
Jun 30, 2005 5:08pm
It's amazing that two years after the demise of MCO, we're still on these boards crying about it. It just shows how good this game was. I miss it dearly. WAKE UP EA!!! We're dying out here!!!
Jul 6, 2005 12:49am
It's me again. Hey, can anyone tell me the name of some game similar to MCO? I just can't find anything nice...
Jul 8, 2005 1:30pm
any news about MCO?
Jul 9, 2005 10:37pm
Any one have a website that we can start a pettion
Jul 10, 2005 3:38pm
Heys guys im really with you on this fight. I was one of the few that got to do the open beta and fell in love with the game till ea shut it down.... i was 17 when the game came out and now im 20... 3 years and im still hopping that one day we could get mco up and have a great community of racers once again. My dad knows some guys at sierra and ill see if he will talk to them and see if they have any ideas on this hole ordeal...EA you are really dumb to think that the community wasnt big enough to keep at least 4 servers going on a 10$ a month fee.....****ers
Jul 11, 2005 10:59pm
4 servers?! I'll be glad if they start one server! I can provide all needed hardware, broadband connection, 24/7 support. And all that FOR FREE. I mean it. No joking. Russians are not just drunk assholes with strange looking hat. We also can do charity!
Jul 13, 2005 4:41pm
yes bring back mco the only game i ever really loved its the best when i got home from work thats the first thing i whould do is play mco please find it in your heart bring it back
Jul 13, 2005 4:47pm
did any one get a server up yet?
Jul 13, 2005 4:51pm
i still have my copy i bought years ago and im nerver giving it up even if they dont bring it back WAKE UP EA''''
Jul 13, 2005 8:12pm
Give away the source, so somebody could host a server for real fans!
Jul 14, 2005 1:34am
I'm totally with you guys in this! If anyone can convince EA to sell the server-side software, I'll put in some money to help out... I got the game and by that time they had shut down the registrations. I couldn't get in at all, now I've only got screenshots. :(
NFSU and U2 are nowhere like the realism of MCO.
Jul 14, 2005 3:59am
I WANT TO PLAY MCO.
Jul 17, 2005 8:32pm
I know this doesn't really help now and I wish I sitll kept it all but when MCO was online and running I was apart of the Beta team, which if you don't know we helped get the bugs out of the game.... anyways we had our lil beta city server, and we also had a, proto-type if you will of a mod that would allow you to run the game offline, it was a file to download from MCO's website, don't remember if you had to be a Beta tester or not, but mainly I wanna know how all these servers are coming along that I keep reading about...any progress at all? I wanna play again! MCO was the best racing game i've ever played and still is I think... I've done some work with the core game files but they are so damn big it'd take forever since I know lil about code and don't know just how the game was setup.
I'm on Trillian alot, which is AIM, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and more all into one lil program. my AIM is pyrogeneral2004 if anyone wants to know anything about the game that I know or wants to talk msg me.
Jul 22, 2005 5:06pm
Damn I m glad I found ofers like me. I can t remember how many nights I spent up untill the servers shut down then a few hours sleep work all day and right back on driving my ass off... anyways.... I too have contacted EA on all levels and it was a resounding no way to selling , giving or supporting MCO .... So its up to us to figure out .
I do though see some where (I am searching for it again right now) A patch of sorts thats alows you to play MCO ... the cars at least in a certain F1 game I beleave made by ea.
My thoughts on this are ... was there another driving game put out by EA atound the same time as MCO ... if so the code may be very similar and a cross breed of sorts may be able to be made.I m not a programmer just a thinker ...
Soooo if anyone knows of the "patch" I mentioned please let me ... all of us ... know and I ll do the same.

OK i found one of the mods I was thinking of for sports car gt

dunno if it will help
Jul 24, 2005 8:44am
For those whom may wonder why MCO shutdown, I actually know, most people who played MCO don't.
Does anyone here play The Sims Online? Yes? No?
When I looked over the stats of the people who played and the money they made on this game (as a beta tester), aprox. 10,000 people played MCO in total, which means EA Games was making about $100,000 a month off this game which I would say is a very big success. But EAGames thought otherwise I guess and shutdown MCO to start, in my opinion, one of the gayest online games ever, The Sims Online.
TSO replaced MCO because they thought they could get more money and MCO wasn't generating enough revinue...so anyone that can help us all in figuring out how to start our own servers or mods or anything at all tell us about it.
(The Sims 2 is the best Sims game I've ever played but TSO was just gay! As I was also a beta tester for that game as well, and if your wondering EA Games asked me if I wanted to be a beta tester and help them)
Jul 25, 2005 3:37am
Replace MCO with the sims?! That's madness! They drunk too much Vodka. Or someone has took their brains away.
Jul 25, 2005 11:51pm
Please refrain from using sexual orientation in a derogatory fashion within my website. Maybe that's acceptable within your culture, but it isn't here. Otherwise you'll be in danger of posts getting deleted. I'm sure everyone will understand, meanwhile back to the MCO talk...
Jul 28, 2005 6:03am
MCO was the best racing game ever, it is shameful what EA did to us. I can't believe that they thought that we would buy into their nfsug gimmick and accept it as a substitute. They really blew it.
Jul 31, 2005 10:07pm
mco was the best game ever. it was really the only game where two people from diffrent backgrounds could talk and have somthing incomin. it was a game for all of us car freaks who loved all the old classic muscle cars. i didnt grow up during the muscle car era but i love those kinda cars and that was the only way the people whom didnt grow up in that erar could some what get an idea on what kinda things you could do. i say f*** ea for getting rid of mco. sry for the language.
Aug 3, 2005 9:25pm
It was probably the best game ever. Now every time I buy a racing game I hope that it will be even half as good. I haven't played any other game where there were so many parts configurations and different ways to be fast. Most games it doesn't matter what the brand is or what combination of parts you use your just suppossed to buy the most expensive. I really wish they would bring it back, it was the most fun I've ever had playing a game and I play games all the time.
Aug 4, 2005 12:40am
somone give me a update on mco at xtcheats@gmail.com or msn me at kcee2002@bellsouth.net

Aug 6, 2005 11:52am
I can't understand why they won't let us play. I was so pissed when I bought the game, played for a week and then left for college and when I came home the next summer, I found out that there was NO way to play the game at all.
Great game!!!!
EA loves little ricer boys.
Aug 16, 2005 1:10pm
hey i love this game man and i miss it as much as u do
i have been e-mailing ea almost every other month asking about it
any news on the game?
Aug 17, 2005 3:32pm
i only got to play this during beta, left home for 2 years, forgot all about it, and today, on a message board i visit, i was reminded about it.
i now want to play this game more than ever, more than Warcraft, Im not sure what the next NFS will bring, but i miss the auctions and drag races, but mostly the ability to cusomize a classic car for racing.
Aug 18, 2005 10:42am
the next thing nsf is making is nfs most wanted
another street racing game
Aug 19, 2005 4:20pm
Damn shame this game is gone. I did the open beta, and then played for about a half a year. I started to get somewhat bored with it, but it remains the best racing and car game I have ever played. I remember having stock '32 Coupe races on one of the really long street courses, it was amazingly fun staying neck to neck with someone and actually seeing your car creep past his when you nailed your shift. I know the resources (and determination) required to create a third party server are huge, but if anybody pulls it off, they will be a hero to me.
Aug 21, 2005 5:37am
awww...... maaaaan
i just downloaded this game :S
and it took ages on the slowest internet in the world :@
now i really want to play !!!
any updates on the server or playing offline??
Aug 23, 2005 11:25pm
this sucks.................yeah thats it.............this sucks................law suit?
Aug 28, 2005 12:52pm
I Had played MCO ever since beta. I bought it first day and payed my 10 bucks a month. And then it was ripped from me. my Games is now a paperweight. Someone make create a server for this game...
If anyone makes a server contact me CCorkill82@yahoo.com
Aug 29, 2005 8:17pm
Hey, here's a little MCO news that shines a gleam of hope on us. There is a forum going at EA now where EA is asking for input on a new NFS game. MCO guys are hitting the boards pretty hard, so don't sit around waiting, jump on there and put in your 2 cents!

WEll this has me in tears after reading this, long live MCO if you get a server up steven_bigwood@yahoo.com And this game doesn't have "offline play" to my knowledge - wants my camaro back
Sep 12, 2005 10:20pm
I remember buying MCO when I was working at Toy's R' Us. Not the best job, but I got discounts on games. I got home, got it installed, registered, and was whisked away to perhaps the best racing game I've ever had the privelage of playing.
There is no other game out there that gratifies me as much as MCO did, in terms of racing. The ability to buy new parts, to customize nearly every aspect of my vehicle, and really make it the best that I could. And on top of that, the racing was amazing. It really was a test of skill, rather than just making sure you went as fast as possible without hitting anything.
If there's any word on a 3rd party server, let us know. We of the MCO community are begging you! =)
Sep 16, 2005 6:08pm
OK... I am an outsider on this whole subject. I have read threw all the posts after a miss of browsing. I too once downloaded this game, but removed from my archives a few gruesome moons ago. Never played it in fact.|have had experience in the game field in re-engineering of games. I will not be contacted as if I was to release info of myself and how to get contacted, I would be pulsed with unlimited amount of mails/IM's more than any porn site could pass spyware and pop-ups on any given 30 machines in a mass overkill.
So I will do so much as this: post up some site, ftp, link to a place where a sole individual can obtain a copy of this extinct game... no account needed or wanted. If any source has been found or reverse engineered, that would save some time for me. I will represent this to the crew I work with and in some way get a once working mmorpg back on its feet. The crew has had some work in this are and are currently working on a inept server for another extinction.
Keep in mind this work is in little more words than as "painfully difficult". It either takes building a new front-end (login screen, server connection update points, etc), or a new front end and a scrap-server (Seperate Cultivated Rapid Active Population Server) otherknown as "SCRAPS". Which EA will not release thier version of "SCRAPS" and new one must be built or reconstructed using another engine. This can prove to be moderate work if another "SCRAPS" enigine can be applied. Believe me when i tell you this. What EA probably used as thier "server" was nothing more than junk code that could fit on a cd that was command line based. And as far as them running it on Oracle?
Thats another question that strikes an interest in me but won't be answered anytime soon. Personaly, I like to think that EA likes to bogart the big one when it comes to games. Grats to the little-guy game developers in this world!!!
Once again, I leave no contact info. If something developes after I obtain some sort of bundle of this software will I then release info of the "progress". An ISO image would be best if not the only means I deam worthy. Keep this in mind too, if in doing this, its not for the fans of this game, but just out of doing it... and to piss of EA

TO THE AUTHOR OF POST #66
As far as I could understand you (without browsing a dictionary) you are some kind of a programmer. I just wanted to tell you, that your work will be greatly appriciated! If there's anything I can help - tell me. FTP-server is not a problem at all. Contact me if you need it (got a 10Mbit connection). Will do virtualy anything to get the game back!
Sep 25, 2005 3:56am
TO: Russian guy
Alas, I didn't waste my time offering my help as I would have thaught... and believe me when I say this: you don't need a dictionary, just big words that make no sense.
You can respond to me as "frozen282" or "crew282" (the name above is the abuse of my humor and creativity ;) fyi).
Now for the business part... If you do set up an ftp, all I need is whats bundled originaly with the game. I recommend an ISO image (made from WinISO to name one app to do the trick) as its the simple way. I don't need or want anything but read abilities from your ftp. This is to keep you safe from others. Speed concerns me not, as I will port jump to mask my ip (unless I can get my damn library card back =☺) heh). It may seem that I have a problem with security and privacy issues, and I do. I know a few things about a few things and don't want others to know that I know them and who I am so that they may try to know what I do and who I know and what we all know.
;Just let me know when the FTP is up, the ip of it,
;time it will be open, etc etc.
;I prefer the username: crew282
I will leave a post as soon as I retrieve the data and I would recommend killing the ftp afterwards (never safe to leave an FTP open). Keep in mind it will take a few days for me to catch this post as I have many projects in hand.
After I get the data, leave the rest to me and the crew. If something approaches near completion, this forum will be the first informed. From that point, a few of our hosting clones will be piped with the info and data. From that moment it is to be released to all whom wishes to have it!
This being the first to being hit with the locations.

(this is for everyone) â”
This is where I stress a few things.. If a point of a finished release hits, it will be for all who want it. Which from experience of the other MMORPG it will be a pack of two parts... server and client. Which is kinda raw for some meaning that many can have a handle on the server but as set, this will be a form of a multi-list-server basis.
Allmost as it was before but certain groups can have a world of chaos as they see it. We have pondered amongst the most common questions and deemed this the best way. Also, the code made in order to create this pack will be
free-base and open-source. In otherwords, not a soul pays for service again. If we see it, then at that moment we will no longer continue any further help on this particular game and will be frowned upon. We don't get paid for it, so neither does anyone else. We take the effort into "pluggin in" which that which was once unplugged from the market into something free for everyone. Of course this little speech from just one member doesnt seem too harsh, but our community "crew" in a whole can inflict a harsh impact on the free world if we pack-up and hit the road. We have faught to keep what should be free and open as just that, and only at one time in history have we ever had a war, which we won (facing the big man back from 97' to 99'). I bet at least 30% of those who ever read this post have at once had some code wrote by us on your machine and not even know it as such. We don't care for metals, honor, or credit. It just needs to be done. END OF LINE...

Sep 30, 2005 3:37am
To frozen282:
I didn't really understand you. :) Do you already have a server-soft for MCO? If that's so I'll build a machine and set a ftp right now. Otherwise what is for?
And yes, Vodka is our... tradition. Old-old joke: if you see an ugly girl you're not drunk enough yet!
Sep 30, 2005 7:37am
Oh wow. I just happened to stumble on this blog. What awesome news it would be to have this game available again. If nothing else, at least an offline play patch or something. :)
Bookmarked.
Oct 3, 2005 7:35am
Just talking to someone about this game and how good it was so i went to check around if anyone managed to get it back up. This is the most promising thing i've heard so far, i'll be keeping an eye on whats posted here for sure.

to: -=Russian guy=-...
Run to "www.download.com" and grab up "winiso"... use that to rip an ISO of the MCO cd or cd's. After all said and done, use an FTP server app and set it up and go over the instructions I had in the previous post. At the moment I am heading another project which works well in time with what else I have planned. I have obtained oracle... For those that know what that means, good. For those that don't, just as good hehe. But if you are still reading this part of the post who isn't nick'd as "Russian Guy", skip down to the all section. I may as well continue as you are still reading it all anyways..☺.. And Russian guy (RG for short), I know my time will be hectic these next few weeks so no need to rush too fast. I don't wanna hear that EA caused another poor soul to be pushed clear of a good job. So take a moment to compose and collect it up. And I left the bar last weekend with a pretty girl, and awoke in the morning with a true-female-troll... MOVE OVER SHREK!! Guess your claim is all too true. Damn... hehe
to: -=everyone else=-...
Don't give too many hopes up yet folks. But hold on to your hot seats, the fat swoon hasn't sang a luly-toon yet. Keep in mind this is a crew effort on behalf of my regiment of hellions which have all accepted MCO and two other projects on the "to do" list. After we pull off another stunt of mass genocide and globial control. In other words, another software release. Our current project deadline is in four weeks. Plenty enough time to kick back and look over the details of the next three projects before grind-time. I have found out a little more about MCO since my last post. Mainly from a EA disclosed employee from who I contacted. Wish us a little luck, or more for yourselves I should say. For if we fail, we are left with some junk code. But if we preval, the heavens will open and lights will shine. The earth will glow and the planets will traverse into galactic harmony... or the damn game will just work...
TO: -=RG=-...
Will try to leave you some more info later this weekend if I am able. I have a crew meetings following most this weekend till mid-sunday. The inside look is grim at the moment, but even the sun shines on buddah's ass when he gets up in the morn (finishing current project that is). Recharge time for me, the ions are running slow making sleep sound too good. Too much work makes for too much drinking. And too many ugly chicks.. ACK!
Oct 8, 2005 2:48am
And RG, I need the ISO of MCO to be able to create a "server-side". The crew has to have something to reverse engineer before we can make the other part to it. (sorry about that, I kinda missed the question you had in your post. lack of sleep I suppose). I have the OS they ran MCO server on. But it is not needed in the development. A member of the crew had it dishoveled and tag'd when I mentioned about MCO... END OF LINE...
Oct 8, 2005 10:40am
I'm guessing hosting it through a 3rd party web hosting company isent to good an idea is it? also would a standard iso made by alcohol 120% do the job?
Oct 8, 2005 12:53pm
Dude, frozen, if you were any good at all, as you pretend to be, you would have an iso already. I downloaded one just today. Not too hard. I don't believe too much of what you say, and you're just raising the hopes of all these people for no reason. You're nobody. You won't be cracking this game, so please stop pretending to be some great hacker, because you're quite obviously not.
Oct 10, 2005 1:53am
Hello All this is my first time on this post and i had taken the time to read all of the posts. I do like to read all the good things said about MCO and it is a nice dream to play it agin. I beta tested it 3 day's after the beta testing started and i was one of the first 50 to long on to the survers. I played it on average of 6 to 10 hours a day. I was pised the day i read the letter on the home page www.mco.ea.com so i though id take ever think i could about the game and put it on CD. from the fan site kit to the moveies to my 1.4GB's of picture i took the day before it cloased. i owne 2 copies of the game. i was HotBrian on citycenter and my outer copy was for a friend he was HighWind. and if EA Ever read's this my uncle is still willing to pay the 10Million for the rights to the game. but theay turned it down the first time so i dought theay would take it now. But for as my post goes i was all of you that played MCO to think of how much this game changed your life. now how meny people have been boycotting EA games well i havent bought any EA products since the day the surver closed i was online the last min of the deth of mco and it sucked every one was saying good bye and then like the hand of godd some one clicked a single button and for-ever changed the lifes of some 7,000 diehard fans of the game. since that day iv been picking at the files of MCO and have had no sucess. if any one even trys to pick at it good luck but the only ones with the power to do any thing for us are the creator's of the game or the tech people i know for sure at least one of them has the software for the surver or know's how to run it offline. with that said i will retire back to sitting on my portch smoking my NewPort's and listening to the mco music i listend to when i played the game and so help me god if some one say's theay have the power to make this game offline and dosent or online agin for that matter i would hunt you down.
P.S. sorry if this offends any one but i lived some 2 years of my life on this game and would litertely kill some one to be able to play for 5 more minuts
Oct 10, 2005 8:23am
iwasatoad, we all have these feelings, me and my mate played it for almost 2years, we still talk about those good old days on MCO, and we loved to played that game, but it would be so nice to play that game for just 10min, all those nice memory's, I loved MCO better then NFSU and so on.
I just cant forget those memorys, thats the only game i could play for days and days on.
Oct 10, 2005 11:20pm
The only thing i dont get about EA is why wont theay sell the rights to the game. I mean besides the fact that then theay could make a seckond one. or is the new NFS series based of the same programing that mco is. I mean come on most top hit games would be sold to outher componies for 10million$. Why not this game. If any one has an E-mail adress that i can talk to a CEO or any one high up on the board please let me know my E-mail is iwasataod@yahoo.com
Oct 11, 2005 9:00pm
Here is to hoping it come's back. I've always wanted to play MCO, sadly I looked into it a week too late. *cheers*
Oct 15, 2005 12:02am
To Frozen.
Oh, now I see. You want me to put the image of original CD on my FTP. Correct? Well, there's a little problem... I don't have this CD! The game wasn't officialy published in Russia. I didn't even know it exist until the end of last year. That time I searched the internet. Only thing I had found was an ancient beta-version. I downloaded it and... damned EA. "Service discontinued". What a crap.
I need a week or two to find out if any one in my city has the cd.
Oct 15, 2005 1:46pm
WOW! I hope we get MCO's server side back up and running! I have to say MCO changed my like forever. i have learned sooo much from it it is not even funny! I would do ANYTHING to help out and get MCO back up and running.........

hello this game was better than a nice jucy steak that i gave up many times to play this better than life game i spent hours on there then they brought the rice burner cars in that made 100-200 people leave a day within 3 days mco was dieing and this makes no sence to me they make no money on nfsu mothley but yet its still online game play i think they should charge the little nfsu people 10$ a month like we did back in Motor City Online and this is bull that they shutdown mco i tryed to make it one player offline but all attempts are un sucsessful i got to the point where i loved the music so much i still paly the songs off of it that rareley happens to me or any of my frends ea games should remake mco and make it mco2 that would make all of us verry happy and that would also make me happyier too because whenever i see the box or the cd or the jewl case of mco i think why is life so short mco seemed like a distant long time ago thing but ive rememberd racing on there all the time either when im playing a racing game or just bike rideing or driving a quar or car this is the one game i actualy liked out of all my other games i got like 5000 games alot form ea and i am literley pissed at them for shutting down mco it changed my life and got me through hard times but now its gone and i have too much freetime my conclusion mco could help with young peoples drug problems or famly problems because its liek msn and a game connected
this was the coolest expirince of my life thanks for reading this it feels good to know other people share the same feelings about mco as i do
my e-mail is badass396@hotmial.com if you want to e-mail me

Broadcasting to all hackers, that wish to help MCO community:
ftp:// ftp . stalingrad . biz / mcity.rar
or
ftp:// 83 . 239 . 144 . 79 / mcity.rar
this is an iso-image of the original CD (thanks to Anon)
I'll try my best too keep the server running as long as possible. Connection problems can occur (transcontinental wiring, satellites... you know).
Oct 29, 2005 2:14pm
I have success in creating a log in server, but the game requires much more than that.
The data base server is very difficult to recreate.
Who knows where the UltimaOnline third party server software is??
UO used same login servers as MCO, this would be a good place to start if UO actually still works.
I will check back soon.
Oct 30, 2005 11:01am
Hi everybody!
maybe this will help:
i'm not a programmer, but i have seen the same thing with the Counter strike 1.6
This prog needs a Steam named shit, but some guys made it to work offline. I'm not understand, how they made it, but it's like a virtual registration, to a virtual server.
Tip2:The MC is the same engine that the nfs Porshe,or some older Need4Speed game(i think).
as i said i'm not a programmer, just a mucle car maniac, so if i said nothin' useful im sorry!
i just want to play again! I hope it can give u some ideas...
Sorry, for the spelling, it's because i'm still learning English
Nov 2, 2005 8:05pm
The server that they are using for UO is called Runuo you can get it from www.runuo.com I have writen similar applications as this and am interested in helping the project. They also have lots of tools there that could be helpful such as a packet hooker and other tools.
MCO needs to be reborn. I just hope that if it is done that someone writes the server in C# due to its simplicity.
Nov 7, 2005 10:27pm

Hey all,
I saw in an earlier post that someone wanted to know about a mod for mco well go here http://www.racingnationonline.com/article.php?story=20040712124830168 and learn all about it.
You'll need a full Version of F1 Challange to use the mod.
You can go here http://www.team-mcomod.com/ and register to find out more about that mod and other mods their working on.
Now about EA and MCO. No they will never, ever, release anything dealing with MCO because they use the coding in their other games, I know, their other games suck and they should crawl outside the box again but they go where the $$$ is and if peeps keep buying the crap they put out then they'll keep sellin it.
Hopefully someone will be able to hack the game but I don't think its possible since EA kept lots of info needed to run the game and run it without cheats on their servers.
Keep contacting EA letting them know that the NFSU's are not what we want in a racing game and that we want MCO back.
https://account.ea.com/login/napd-login.jsp?locale=en_US&site=eaco&skin=...
You'll need to log in using your EA member account name and password.
Don't forget to check out the MCO Memorial I made http://xredeyex.topcities.com/MCO Memorial/

Hello agin all I'v been messing around with the game some more but I'v decided to stop trying for a week because there is so much to look at to start with that it's unbarible no luck on finding out how to get into the game like i was before when the survers were down. but i think there is one thing missing from how i used to do it. The update surver starting thing i cant even get past that now so i dono what to do. I went to that guy's like for those of you who were like me and redy to drop 1grand on what ever if it ment playing it agin but the thing that is longed for in MCO is the commiunity and the live auction and the building the car aspact so just driveing the cars dosent relly satisify me unless i built it and i dident get much more info than the video but im sure it's just the driving and if all i wanted to do was drive i wold buy NFS HP and downlod the car on their. All though i dident go to the forme to see if all that was in their. I'm glad some one has more to show than i did but what i want to get is the hole thing. Ill keep posting every week or 2 if i can but i wokr 4 10hr nights a week now so im purtty beat when i get off. Well ill get back to you all next week Hot Brian of City center sining off
Nov 19, 2005 8:48am
Hey guys it has been a long time since i thought about this game and untill i looked around to see if anything had happened as far as a offline hack. i just wanted to say i thinks its really cool that i am not the only one that seemed to think this game was ahead of its time and still the best racing game i have ever played i have gt4 to keep my company but its just not the same i miss the older cars from mco i miss my el camino ss and my 57 nomad. 55 nomad is my all time favorate car and a 57 was close enough. i just hope some good comes of this and EA opens there eyes im going to start looking for more people on the net with the same feelings to see if anyone has gotten close or is interested in getting close to making it playable again and will either have them post here or i will reply with a link to there findings. man..... from russia to alaska if you go the right way we got believers all over the world now ;)
Nov 20, 2005 2:44am
Well, it's good to see that there are some good old diehard fans not giving up on the game.
That being said...it wasn't really a game after all but a way of life. I don't know about the rest of you but playing racing games since MCO has been rather dull. Sure they may look better, have more cars, and even more detailed tracks. But they're just games....nothing more. Meant to be played until you reach the end and then put on a shelf. The thing about MCO was that it NEVER made it to the shelf. I started playing it from day one and never looked back. The other great thing about MCO was that there was no ending, no final challenge and no ending credits. It was the purest racing game I have ever played.
And to those out there that have played it. We all know what it could do to you:
1. It could make you skip work or go home early just to put in a club time or bid on an auction.
2. It could make you function on 3 hours of sleep. Repeatedly!
3. It could make you forget about your everyday grind.
4. It could make you come up with a fake excuse for your wife, boss or girlfriend just to get time in front of it.
5. Even today ....it can make me feel sorry for the many out there that never had a chance to experience it.
6. The bottomline, is MCO could make you do just about anything.
Now that it's gone .....all we have is the hope that one day it will return or that we'll play something like it again.
To EA ....your sitting on a gold mine! You see the posts. You see the community spring to life everytime you anounce a new racing game. You know were here and you know there are even more of us. We've tried to petition. We offered to pay for the servers. Heck, we even offered to buy the game itself from you. But the answer was always been "No thanks"
That being said...I'm here to let you in on a little secret.
You want to dominate the world of racing games..right? You want the competitin to struggle and their racing games to die out?
Well then I have the solution. Develop a game like MCO but make it for everyone. Include the tuner crowd and exotic fans as well. You said there wasn't a big enough market for MCO and I agree with you. I know for a fact that there is a much larger audience today for tuner cars then for any of the muscle cars found in MCO. So just think..if you could take the Tuner, Muscle and Exotic fans and make them all fanatics like us. That my friend .....would be racing game domination.
There would be no need for a new game every year and the only thing you would need to do is provide us with updates or Add-On packs. You could even make the game offline and charge a fee for online play. Either way once the tuner and exotic fans got a glimpse of the online community they'd be inserting the needle into their arm just as quickly as we did. :)
The concept is easy and the table is set.
"Need for Speed Online" needs to be developed.
A game for everyone and every taste out there. A game that allows muscle, tuners and exotics to meet up togther to form clubs, chat and race for turf. Where you can mod the body of your Honda Civic, rebuild the 350 in your Camaro or paint your exotic. Because...well... who would do anything else to an exotic?
Their could be car lots and an extensive auction scene for buying and selling cars and rare parts.
This game is a lock to be a success and would render your competitons offerings meaningless.
If you have the technology to create racing fanatics why not use it? You started this race EA....it's time you finished it!
I don't know if anyone from EA will ever see this but it's late and I felt like putting in my two cents.
Later,
Aidon Ross / Uptown Pacific ;)
Nov 21, 2005 12:07pm
Yeah I remember this game it was good times. I appreciate everyone trying to fight to revive it. I'll help in any way needed.
Nov 21, 2005 4:08pm
@ Aidon
That is verry nice said. I Said that to a friend to to make our own MCO. We tryed but is was to damm hard. We just up.
But the spirit from MCO lives on.
Nov 25, 2005 4:26am
Some interesting news:
A new game called "GT Legends" is about to be available at the stores. This seems to be as close as possible to MCO. Anyway it is better than nothing.
Nov 26, 2005 5:56pm
is it online?
Nov 27, 2005 8:46am
Downloaded demo of "GT Legends". It is not an *online* game, but a trackrace-sim with multiplayer option. Actually there are not many similarities to MCO, the main two that I noticed are:
-it is a racing game
-you race with old cars
And it needs a *very* good comp to run smootlhy. I think I'll keep waiting for MCO;]
Nov 27, 2005 1:57pm
lol yeah frd i tried it too. i agree its nothing like mco.
Nov 30, 2005 12:02pm
yeah russian guy its all good man, we werent scolding you :P
Dec 1, 2005 2:39am
Been a few since I checked out this blog last. In that time, I've been dinking around with a few things. Mainly just straight programming. I've found that there's a great opportunity for people to get together a brilliant project, if we can find the motivation and the people.
Mainly, it centers around using Managed DirectX with C# or VB.Net, to make our own MCO. Not sure how many know this, but the Managed DirectX library comes with a lot of standard parts to it. Like the rendering engine, network capabilities, and DirectInput for mouse and joystick play.
Granted, that means that people will have to put it a lot of work, and we'd essentially be putting together our own game. But it's a chance to not only rebuild MCO for ourselves, but to make it better than it was.
Just a thought =)
Nov 29, 2005 10:06pm
I was part of the beta testing for about the last 3 months of it. Some of the funnest times I've had with MCO. I remember the last week or so they gave us a million MCO dollars everyday, and free cars to screw around with. Talk about fun times!!!
That really was more than a game. I played that for a good 8-10 hours every day. (I'm handicapped and unemployed)
If anyone gets a server going or figures out how to play it offline, I'd really be interested.
Nov 30, 2005 7:19am
To frd and McCone:
I didn't say that GTL is a clone of MCO. I just ment to say that GTL is the best game available now. With classic cars and simulator engine (not an arcade one). Wished to help.
Dec 1, 2005 1:40pm
not a bad idea cruz, but honestly, i for one have motivation for that but usually internet projects like that are hard to do. people become dis-interested and the projects go dead :/
Dec 2, 2005 8:56am
Aye, I know the feeling, McCone. Was part of a project once to take Uru(Myst Series), and make something similar using the Unreal2k4 engine. I didn't stay with the project long because I personally felt they weren't quite going in the right direction.
But, considering how much a lot of us loved MCO, for our own reasons, who knows where it might lead to. Might not be us who work on it, but hopefully someone out there will take the idea and run with it. =)
Dec 2, 2005 1:31pm

Dec 5, 2005 12:40am
lets all flood ea with emails through all of their websites and talk to the highest people and force them to realize that they were stupid to shut it down. it seemed to me that it was only getting more and more popular and they kept adding stuff to make it better if they dont bring back this game i hope they crash and burn in the gaming industry
Dec 5, 2005 12:50am
Hey all,
Just throwing my name and hopes in too. Found this site after coming across the install disc tonight. Hope something happens.

To maddogg: not too far. Actualy I was hosting a ftp with an ISO of MCO. See post 88. frozen282 asked me to do it. See posts 66, 67, 68.
To Fubar231: you cannot even imagine how many fans asked EA to start server or even SELL it. They refused without a reason. ;(

I've got no good news. I have no contact with "crew282" and... my server room now looks like swamp. It's all flooded! The pipes blew up (rust!). This building survived the WW2. And pipes were never changed since then! :) So I was offline. And I have a bad feeling about ressurection of MCO.

I was a long time player of MCO and miss it. I've bought an X Box and many games to try to replace it but none do the trick. They are all lacking the community, the customization and everything else. This was my "electronic nerve pill" and I could actually escape in this game and unwind after having to deal with a high pressure job all day. And I'm an enthusist in real life, I own a 67 Camaro and am vice president and co founder of a real life muscle car club with about 100 members. Rice tunerz and paint for mods just don't do it for me, if there is anything I can do to help, let me know. I got 2 original copies of the game. Rottie@tmcdee.net Thanks for keeping this site and the interest still running on this great game!!

You guys should be racing the mcomod A.E.P ITs an awesome mod. You need f1challenge 99-02 to play the mod.
If you have f1challenge 99-02 then go to http://10secrides.com/ then downloads and download the mod.
We also have a racing league at http://www.f1rst3.com/mco/
Just download the f1rst client and come and race with us.
This is an awesome mod and we race almost nightly around 10pm till ?
I would enjoy seeing some more exmcoers on the track.

Dec 23, 2005 10:46am
to russian guy how far did you get with mco before your sever room became a swamp?
Dec 23, 2005 10:32pm
Man we shoudl rbing back motor city online, One of us needs to get off our fat ass's (Maybe were not fat) and get one running with connections. I mean shiaat they made tons of them with Ragnarok online and other games. We could host a server. Or someone should call a Server hosting thing for ea and talk to them about setting up a server, signle server, not even that big, maybe 5000 people, and get one running for us. Ill still pay 10$ a month, game blows the fuck out of wow.
Dec 27, 2005 11:38pm
I am curently working with a computer programer to set up a server/ or clone the game. i keep people updated on motor city online comunity as msn groups... look for swedcx there

Hey guys I was originally in the beta as well and played it through the 2-3 years it was alive before EA killed it. The game was killed by EA because of their own stupidity. The marketing side of EA did a horrible job about 2 weeks after it was released they stopped talking about it...completely. When the E3 show rolled around that following year after the release it was never mentioned at all. They got a maximum of about 37,000 people and decided to kill it. So I could see why killing it when u have other games such as Final Fantasy Online coming in strong with over 250,000 paying customers thats alot to compete with so yea thats alot of revenue they "Could" be making ...all they had to do was release a public demo of it on like fileplanet again and just mention it on gamespot.com and such and bam instant hit but noooo. As far as their not releasing the server code it is because that same server code is either similar to another online game they use , such as, UO or Sims online or something as well as that game engine was used in other need for speed games. However....you might coerce them into lettin you have that server code if you make some kind of agreement for free advertisements on their games or future games on the loading screens and such. Just a thought.
Jan 2, 2006 9:46pm
man i miss mco, im a csci student and willing to help in anyway. But my programming is limited to business applications, but its programing expierence to say tha least.

Jan 16, 2006 8:59pm
Every time a new "racing game" comes out (especially an EA racing game), it makes me sad that MCO is gone. As much as we all loved MCO, it seems that it is never coming back, as a lot of the data was on their servers, which no one has yet been able to emulate. I have had fun playing the NFS:UG2 and NFS:MW, but they just aren't even close.
Those are video games, and they can be kinda fun, but MCO was a way of life for us. If only they had spent 1 dime advertising it (a la Sims Online), or at least made it available at major retailers such as Wal-Mart, etc...
*sigh* I am glad that I'm not the only one who is still not happy with what they have given us since then.
Jan 16, 2006 9:07pm
One more thing that puzzles me...
Ultima Online is another EA massively multiplayer, subscription-based game. It was not only the first subscription-based game I ever played, but it is the first one ever MADE. Nearly 9 years later, it is still going, competing with even the newest eye-candy MMORPGs out there. It has never ever been advertised, all they did was make it available at major discount chains such as Wal Mart and whatnot.
I wish someone at EA would read this blog. Not that it would do any good, but even if all they had was a few hundred of us willing to pay to share just one MCO server with no tech support or other in-game support, wouldn't it be a nice gesture to the fans who just refuse to go away?
Feb 11, 2006 11:03am
So, after all this posts... did a MCO server can be emulated? Or someone done that?
Feb 11, 2006 3:04pm
Or at least, it can be played offline, somehow?
Feb 12, 2006 4:33pm
So any further progress on this, i missed this game first time around so id love the chance to play now.
Feb 22, 2006 10:06pm
i've been playing the mco mod for F1 challenge 99-02...really makes me want to find away to play MCO again, i want my duster and my vitamin C/black mach 1 back
Mar 6, 2006 10:51am
Ive been playing that mco mod for the f1 99-02 it was funny i thought i missed the cars but it was really just the enviroment of people who liked cars and liked the game that i hung out with on a daily bases that made mco what it used to be. the mco mod is fun havent tried playing online due to my computer is a bit querky and it might just want to screw with me while im driving, but anybody know whats goin on with the mco mod website its not working? anyway just wanted to say hi and good racin to all you other real mco fans!
Mar 8, 2006 8:01pm
you'll find a wealth of info here
http://www.10secrides.com/
i thought the mod was dead my self until i stumbled upon this website. i know what you mean about the people, i had a small club, which i raced with daily, that and the comlexity of building the engines and the cars was really fun, and i can't seem to find that in any other game.
Mar 21, 2006 7:30am
Maybe our prayers are being answered. Looks like Test Drive Unlimited is going to be the closest thing to MCO we have seen in a long time.
Check it out: http://www.shacknews.com/extras/2006/031706_tdu_1.x
Apr 2, 2006 9:06pm
Aidon nah its just another nfs damn i miss that game its been what now 3 or 4 years since i played and i cant wait wow it might accually been 5 yrs i was 12 im 17 now so shit any luck yet guys if so hit me up burn.an.go@gmail.com
i wanna take a 65 mustang around the oval 1 more time
Apr 5, 2006 10:52am
Its a few years now since MCO was shut down, and yet, every month, me and my buddy Cody will bring up the good times on MCO, His skoggit running GTO and my Hazard Hollow running Pontiac Firebird T/A. All the sponsored and such vehicles in the auctions which the general public could feast their ever loving eyes on. I have never seen such a game that had every noticable detail to the engine, gearing, and even suspension system. Licensed parts, just WOW... MCO was by far the BEST game i, or any of us have ever played when it comes to the automotive world. There has got to be a way to have our dreams come true again.
May 2, 2006 3:08am
I only know of one game that would be excellent for and MCO mod. GT Legends. The only downfall is not being able to upgrade the car part by part. The graphics would be very nice and the physics are too real. I would help pay with cash if it aws ever able to be done. It is stupid that we have to resort to modding to play the game. And its not even close to the real thing. Theres still no game today, that i have played, that lets you bore your motor and put it in 3 different cars whenever you want! Gettin me all fired up again >:(
May 1, 2006 2:00pm
honestly what f'in bs is that...ea just cut the plug... no offline patch...thanks for the cash, you can go to hell.
wow. id kill to play mco again, loved that game with a passion....wow.
:(
May 5, 2006 6:26am
I have played mco during the beta testing period. I had to change my desktop pc for a notebook afterwards, which (at that time) had a shitty gfx card and no joy port. This is why I didn't play the game, but visited the mco website almost daily to keep up. Just when I finished university, I've bought a desktop pc, had enough money to pay the monthly fees and bang... they shut the thing off. How's that for unfair.
My fear is that we can forget EA completely in terms of cooperativeness. There just won't be MCO offline, or MCO2. They sold themselves and more and more become just one label in this rotten apple called gaming industry. Medicore sequels of medicore games are the only things that come out these days. Nothing original in the last few years. I pity the kids these days, all they can get is some sort of FPS, RTS, RPG, driving or sports game. Genres that have been created in the beginning of the 80's.
It hurts me that we (the consumers) cannot swim against the current. :(
May 9, 2006 10:14pm
Here is another forum for MCO lets make something happen.

hi guys, hi redeye & McVixen
played beta too and was on Xroads , like all of u since EA pull the plug ive been lettin my pc take dust most of the time. i miss it so much and too true that only crappy games come out ..gaming industy is low on gas..serving up eye candy and nothing else, damn even Mr.Carmak is lazy with is doom3 engine...ive read that there is a offline crack a year back on some forum ,so is my original copy is still of use ?? of better throw it to garbage..if the offline crack is true would help me maintain hope
May 25, 2006 4:44pm
I'm back!, my last post was #15, I have since failed to find a replacement for MCO and I miss my fenderless bumperless chop top yellow 1932 ford coupe, It was my John Milner American Graffitti coupe!, My server name was JohnMilner01, and I spent 250,000 for that car as a shell and had every rare part including the "megablower" as I recall, and the nos, I had everything, I was also sitting on 1,576,362 of MCO cash. Unfortunately I didn't play the last night of MCO becuase I thought it was a joke, I figured they would never cancel a game this awesome. I still forever loathe ricegrinders with all my being. I can't remember what server I was on, it was too long ago, I think Pacific. Any one else have some personna memories, or remember me as JohnMilner01, I was the fastest on tri-oval with my 1200 hp 56 vette with 5 speed and 2.43 rear end, it was all black, any one remember me, I think I ran low 13's , I can't member.... Id be willing to pay over $1000 to play that game again...
May 25, 2006 10:06pm
I miss this game like crazy!!! I was in it more for drag racing than anything. I was Stunna on Xroads. Usually ran an 65 stang all motor pullin times in the 9.70s. Several times I was accused of cheating by newbies runnin 65s with over a 1000hp that just didn't have the right setup to run decent times. Not that I can really talk, I never could get my setup right using a blower. I keep waiting for the day when EA will remake MotorCity, but have it an offline game and just ad a storyline to it. We can all Dream cant we. If anyone remembers me, feel free to hit me up at ken_thapimp@yahoo.com. I know a few people I'd like to hear from. Later
May 29, 2006 9:53am
theyr asking 30, 000 for the rights from what i have heard..if anyone pays it..they can start the game and make a shit load of money...but good luck
Jun 6, 2006 10:37pm
$30000 for the rights? Well, thats not too much. 300 guys per $100 each... I'm ready anytime. Maybe somitime I'll see the game with my own eyes (dreaming)...
Jun 7, 2006 4:19am
Yep, that's not too much (if the $30k price is true), and I am quite sure that there are far more than 300 guys waiting for MCO...
Jun 18, 2006 1:21am
if anyone still reads this and knows the style of code they used to code MCO, throw me an e-mail at divine1@divineguardians.info , I might be able to make a server if i can figure some things out in their code
Jul 2, 2006 9:43am
I have already stated above that their is an emulator for Ultima Online that is also designed by EA games. The site is http://www.runuo.com EA uses C++ for their server software yet runuo is all done in C# and is now open source and you can see all the packet info being traded with the client. Their is also packet snuffers located at the site.
Jul 10, 2006 10:12am
Hey Cory ya I remember you and you 32 coupe. Ya ya you don't beleive me but I was chatting with you when you won the auction. You couldn't beleive that I came in a .2 seconds behind you in the boxy older chevelle. Worst money trap I ever built in that game. Cost more to repair then the prize, tell you what if MCO servers ever get running again I blow you off the road. Ok maybe not but I'd have fun trying in a starter car. Oh and sorry for stealing your title for that one week but hey I had just started and had no clue what I was doing and built a burner. Like you said good times.
Jul 10, 2006 12:15pm
it sucks that nobody ever thought of just making this game offline. or atleast giving mco an offline component. Its so aggrivating that they just shut it down with no offline patch or any type of support. Now all that they are focused on is just making rice burner games filled with garbage rap. Hopefully someone will figure it out.
Jul 12, 2006 8:20pm
The prob with recreation is Mco used many many securitys to cover its path. The game was writting from what I could tell in C++ then when launched it patched and went to a Oricale login server to recieve a encrypted key. That part is not possible to crack unless you have many decades and no life. From there it linked to many servers form personas to auctions and races. It must of cost a fortune to run this game but deff was worth every penny. Well creating a single player AI would suck be nice to get into game but no features like parts and what not would work. You might get a few tracks and a car and your name on licence plate but thats about all. If your intresed in the cars there are a few mods that use the MCO cars and you can convert you MCO cars to a previous NFS game from what I have seen. If you really liked this game support a Group creating simular games or check out the new FlatOut or Testdrive. Well will prob never get back orginal MCO but I am sure in the future you will see something come about that have many of the same features and fun. Till then Guess you will have to race your fav track in your mind. BTW watch out for the trailer and Tornado!!!
Jul 21, 2006 8:48am
Flatout is all about crushing cars. That's not what I want. I want:
1. Oldstyle cars. Just like in MCO.
2. Loads of parts and components. Not stupid "Engine upgrade level 2" but like in MCO or Street Legal Racing Redline.
3. Strong phisics model. Like GTR/GTL.
I think that majority of visitors of this page will agree with this.
Jul 25, 2006 12:46am
1. All style car's
2. Loads of parts and components. Not stupid “Engine upgrade level 2″ but like in MCO or Street Legal Racing Redline.
3. Arcade style like MCO/NFS or ultra realistic like LFS, not inbetween like NFS:MW
Jul 25, 2006 12:48am
Most important is being online either fully or as a mode but it's got to be as indept community's as MCO otherwise it's not the same.
Aug 11, 2006 10:03am
BlkShadow whats up, you totally jogged my memory, I remeber you too! I was doing the kill your personna and start a new one thing for the money and then I couldn't get my name back and I couldn't figure out why lol... and that damn coupe was a badass drag car! PS to everyone I have a hacker friend as I speak attempting to break into EA's files because as he said "once it's on the net it's always on the net" so hopefull yif he is successful then we will be abl eto play with all the game features by our selves, however we can download a chat program and continue to chat while playing independantly as well as take screen shots to prove our track records and such, so it might not be all that bad... if it works L8R, I'll try to keep EV1 posted
Aug 11, 2006 2:39pm
I'd like to point out that while people are free to discuss certain issues (hackers, etc.) here because these are public and free comments, as the administrator of this website I do not condone or recommend illegal/illegitimate methods to obtain the means for continuing MCO, especially when there are perfectly legit methods (look at all the UO servers!) available.
Someone just needs the knowhow, resources and most importantly willingness to do the real work. So far, honestly, nobody has truly stepped up to the plate.
Meanwhile, I think I'll enjoy Test Drive Unlimited when it's released for the PC, even though it's a completely different game.
Aug 21, 2006 6:11pm
I seriously cannot believe this thread is still alive. Not that that's a bad thing, but damn. Has there been any progress? Is anyone even taking steps? I have to wonder if there's any real interest left in this cause.
Aug 21, 2006 9:10pm
I wish I really really wish that the game would come back I have been reading this for months now heh finally decided to writing something this morning.
Aug 21, 2006 9:12pm
Question though has anyone here come across code for this game at all.. or something we could use to write our own patches?
Sep 1, 2006 8:41pm
mco was the greatest racing game ive ever played!!!!PERIOD
Sep 1, 2006 8:43pm
WHAT A SHAME.
Sep 4, 2006 12:48am
Glad to find this page!I´m still missing the best game ever, even though it never came to germany.
I have no idea about coding and stuff, but all these postings make me believe in a bright future...hemi powered ;o)
Sep 10, 2006 2:05pm
MCO was not only a GAME,
It was SO REAL.
Sep 14, 2006 1:06pm
MISSIN MY MCO ... the game was great until the end when they put the damn rice burners on it. if i knew a way to get it back i would but i dont have the cash or the computer ability.
Sep 14, 2006 7:54pm
Yeah it truely was a revolution of the racing genre, if we could get some dev stuff there may be a way to get this game up again, its just so hard to reverse engineer these things, as a matter of fact i dont beleive it can be done but alas one day perhaps we'll see this game again there is always hope for some bits of help to come along =D
Sep 22, 2006 11:00pm
Hey just keeping the thread alive....
